Something about the decision management process

The decision making is basically a daily activity for any person, with no exception. Business organizations are no exception to this rule, but the decision process is, in this case, more complex and more important, as it involves the well-being of the whole company. The decision management process is all about making effective and successful decisions and bringing profit in every company. For this, all organizations need a good manager and a well-prepared team as well. Usually, the decision making process in management is led by the manager, but he very rarely takes the important decisions alone. A team is always there to support the manager and bring in useful information about the discussed issues.

There are a few steps towards a successful decision management process. The first important step is the identification the purpose of the decision process. A team and a manager should ask themselves what is the problem, why is the company dealing with this problem, who is affected by this problem and if the problem has a deadline. After this step has been completed, the second step follows closely, and that is gathering the information. There can be a lot of factors involved in the problem and affected by it, so the team and manager must gather as much information as they can, related to the problem, in order to make the solving process much easier.

The third step used in the decision making process in management is deciding the criteria for judging the choices at hand, and also decide on the organizational goals the company has related to the problem. Companies usually make decisions for gaining profit, success or recognition, and not to reduce the profit. The fourth step is analyzing the alternatives, through special methods, such as brainstorming. The company must list down the ideas and decide which one is the best. However, the manager and the team must firstly understand the cause of the problem at hand and prioritize it. Cause and effect diagrams can be really helpful in this step. The fifth step is the evaluation of the choices. Basically, the manager must evaluate each alternative based on its own judgments principles and experience. The manager especially must compare the positive and negatives of every solution, and, in the sixth step, decide for the best one. Even if this step is not the easiest one, when selecting the best alternative, the work is almost completely done.

Finally, in the decision management process, the team and manager must execute the taken decision. Converting the decision into a sequence of activities or into a plan is not difficult, but executing it may be the difficult part. However, the last step is evaluating the results of the decision. This will definitely improve the decision-making skills and help you understand what went wrong, if the decision turns out to be a bad one. To conclude, the manager must weigh the positive and negative aspects of the problem in order to avoid any losses of the company. A manager must not avoid making a decision, but confront it in order to bring success in the organization.

The decision management process is very important for any company! Tough decisions are part of a manager job, but go for a team in the decision making process in management to get the best results!
