Situated in the eastern scope of the Kubuqi Desert, in Telaqi Autonomous County, Ordos Prefecture, Singing Sand Ravine has another name “Yinken Xiangsha”. Yinken means forever in the Mongolian language. Xiangshawan district is only three kilometers from National Road 210. The Baotou city is 44 kilometers to the north and the Ordos city is 55 kilometers east.

Features of Singing Sand Ravine

Singing Sand Ravine  is virtually a big winding sandy slope in the Kubuqi Desert. This crescent-shaped sand dune is as wide as 400 meters and as high as 100 meters, with a 45 degree of inclination. On sunny days, when there is no rain, the sands here are badly dry. At this time, when sliding down from the top of the sand dune, you can hear sounds from the sands, just like the sounds of blowing a bugle and hitting a drum. Occasionally the sounds are just like the shouting of frogs, and betweentimes they sound like the roaring of motor or airplanes. They may even sound like a appealing and interesting sinfonia. If some people do it together, they may hear sounds as loud as that of bells, making a peculiar phenomenon.

At Singing Sand Ravine a cableway leading to the top of the sand hill has been built up, hence you can get to the top much easier. There are also ladders here for you to use. Excepting playing on the sand hill, there are a lot of other exciting and interesting activities to do here, comprising playing on the desert ropeway, cart games, sand skating on boards, sand-surfing cars and riding desert motor vehicles , horse-riding , desert paragliding and camel-riding. You can appreciate the desert sunrise and the sunset, enjoy the sand figurines, take desert adventures, do archery, make a bonpfire and appreciate the Mongolian dancing and singing performance named ‘the Wedding in Ordos’ . Additionly, around two kilometers south of the sand dune around , there is a pure desert lake .Even if it is quiet small, never dries up all though the year. So it is quite a valud and rarely-seen desert lake.
