If you have a daughter between the ages of 10 and 18, this is the perfect jewelry making project for you. Candy bracelets and handmade necklaces can be made from a variety of beads. They come in bright, neon and pastel colors, various shapes and colorful glow in the dark pieces. String them on elastic cord and tie a knot. They will be perfect for decoration or as personalized charms.

When looking to invest in jewelry containing sapphires, opals or rubies make sure that you understand what lab created means. Lab created gemstones are grown in a laboratory using scientific means. Jewelry that you se labeled as lab created such as sapphire has never seen Mother Nature. If you are looking for natural gemstones, you may be paying a higher price and spend significant time looking for a vendor outside of your local mall. However, your personalised charms will be original and unique.

When you are shopping for jewelry, make sure that you ask your jeweler the "right" questions about their wares. You need to discuss things like diamond grades. You also need to ask who the graders are of their pieces. Find out what their education and experience is, and see what the guarantees are on whatever their grades are.

When storing your fine jewelry in a chest or case, wrap each piece in a small piece of velvet cloth. That way harder gemstones will not scratch softer gemstones and metals. It also helps pieces not get tangled with themselves and the velvet helps to keep the pieces safe from excess moisture. Handmade necklaces require special care, but the extra time you put into storing them, will pay off in the long term.

Making your own jewelry is easier than you think. You can find interest pendants at craft stores that can be placed on chains you already own or you can easily buy an inexpensive chain. If you knit or crochet, you can use yarn to create chokers and bracelets. Even if you buy and combine store bought items, making your own jewelry still allows you to design what you wear.

Question any piece of jewelry that is so cheap it's too good to be true. Look at any gemstones to ensure they don't have large inclusions in them. Look for stamps on the metal to prove that it is what it's claiming to be. If someone takes offense to your double checking authenticity, they're probably lying.

When purchasing a silver plated piece of jewelry, immediately paint it with a coat of clear nail polish. Doing this will extend the life of the piece. It can also prevent those tiny scrapes and scratches that are so easy to get. Re-paint the piece once every few months for best results.

To make your engagement ring sparkle like it's brand new, try soaking it in a mild detergent. This will give your ring the deep cleaning it is without damaging the stone or its setting. When the ring has finished soaking, rinse it off with warm water and dry it with a thin, lint free cloth.

Soak diamonds for twenty minutes in a solution made of four parts water and one part ammonia for a sparkling shine. Scrub them with a soft dampened toothbrush allows cleaning of hard to reach places, such as under the gem or around the prongs. Dry it with a soft cloth to keep it shining and looking new.

When giving a piece of jewelry to a significant other, you must resist the urge to make the gift extremely extravagant. A piece of jewelry that costs more does not necessarily make it have more meaning. When you have determined a reasonable gift for the occasion, choose a reasonable price for it, and stick with that price. It can be a pair of earrings, a handmade necklace, a personalised charm or or a ring (for that special someone, when you propose).

Making candy bead bracelets is much less expensive than buying them. It's also a really fun craft project to share with your children. Your daughter will love wearing them and she'll be proud to show off what she made. There's one downside though. Her friends will all want her to make their bracelets too.
