Fighting Pancreatic Cancer Aggressively

Posted by sandlerkenner on January 25th, 2015

Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer and being diagnosed with the disease can be devastating news. The reputation that comes attached to a pancreatic cancer diagnosis is fighting an uphill battle with the end result being an early and imminent death. While it’s true that surviving pancreatic cancer can be a challenge, it’s a challenge that is worth facing. But it must be done with a certain level of aggression to meet this aggressive disease head on.

First and foremost, early detection can make a big difference when fighting pancreatic cancer. This detection can be difficult, however, because there are very few symptoms of pancreatic cancer which means that a doctor often isn’t seen until the cancer has advanced and symptoms have started to appear. So part of attacking pancreatic cancer aggressively is understanding your risk factors so that you can be periodically checked for any evidence of disease. Smoking, obesity, diabetes, and family history are all risk factors for pancreatic cancer. Additionally, African-Americans are at higher risk for developing the disease. By knowing your risk factors you can be sure to alert your doctor so that you can be screened on a regular basis.

If you receive a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, it’s important to move forward with a team of medical professionals who are committed to assertive care while keeping your needs in mind. Working as a team allows you to address the cancer head on in the most methodical, results-oriented manner possible.

Your doctors will assess your overall health and the stage of your cancer to determine the best course of treatment. There are a variety of ways to tackle and manage the disease; your trusted medical team will help you put a plan together that provides you with the best possible chances for success.
