Psilocybe cubensis, which are commonly known as ‘magic mushrooms’ fall into the class of psychedelic mushroom types. For a long time now, these mushroom types have been known for their mind-expanding effects. Lots of research has been conducted on these types of mushrooms, which has  produced some  interesting findings about these mushroom types. Here is a list of those things we should know:

Lots of magic mushrooms out there!

According to researchers, there are approximately 200 species of mushrooms that produce psilocybin or psilocin.  Because of these substances the mushrooms are called “psychedelic”. In general, magic mushrooms rely on these substances to produce  the mind-changing effects they are known for. This means that there are lots of magic mushrooms growing naturally all across the globe.

Magic mushrooms boost brain connectivity

The psilocybin in these mushroom types has been found to boost the connectivity of the human brain. In a research study that was conducted in 2014, fifteen volunteers were given a dose of magic mushrooms. After this, MRI scans of the brains of these volunteers showed that the brain is able to synchronize the areas that are not usually connected. This change in activity stands as proof of the dreamy state that is experienced by the users of magic mushrooms.

These mushrooms can treat some conditions

Some users of magic mushrooms may become psychologically addicted to them. But, in reality, these mushrooms don’t have any addictive substance that could make a person dependent on them. On the other hand, some of the ongoing research studies suggest that the psilocybin present in magic mushrooms is likely to treat nicotine addiction. Some other research studies are also suggesting that magic mushrooms can be used for treating conditions like:

Anxiety

Obsessive compulsive disorder

Headache

Thus, magic mushrooms are believed to have lots of scope in the pharmaceutical field in the near future.

Magic mushrooms could change a person

According to a research study that was conducted during 2011, a dose of psilocybin opened people up for new experiences. This was found to be a stable change and people became more creative. The reason for this change is found in the effects of psilocybin on people’s emotions. The recipients of the magic mushrooms had some profound experiences and they reported feelings of happiness. They said that they were able to connect well with others and with  the things around them.

These may boost the spiritual effect

Another research study that was conducted by John Hopkins University examined the spiritual effects of magic mushrooms. A total of 36 volunteers participated in this study and were given magic mushrooms. The majority said that the experience they got from psilocybin was spiritually significant. Furthermore, about 79% in this study group said that they experienced an increase in feelings of well being during the months that followed this study.
