A majority of women take birth control tablets to avoid getting pregnant. The number of users is increasing day by day, as more people are becoming aware of simple methods to manage reproductive health. One of the contraception methods are using Ovral contraceptive pills, taken in either 28 or 21 day cycle. Some may utilize the medicines as regular means to restrict pregnancy, while others take emergency contraception tablets for same purpose.

Recently in November 2015, both Oregon and California approved use of the contraception tablets without prescription. However, the woman has to visit the pharmacy to get Ovral G pills, and follow up care with doctor is recommended, though not mandatory. Also, counseling will be provided to the users about how to use the medications and its use. Here is a brief on the medicine’s function.

  • The product functions to inhibit ovulation. Thus, the ovaries do not release any active eggs, which could be impregnated. With Ovral birth control pill, the woman can surely live a pregnancy free life, until the medicine is used. After end of each medication course, she will get withdrawal bleeding or menses.
  • Sperms are trapped out of the cervix. The cervical mucus thickens, stopping sperms from entering uterus and finding the eggs for mating. Also, Ovral L breaks the endometrium uterine lining that carries embryo attachment for fertilizing, disrupting forming of the embryo.

Birth Control Tablet 21 or 28 Day Course

The dosage is a pill every day at the same time. If taking 21 days course, then after finishing regimen, do not take the medicines for 7 days. Start with new medicinal pack on the 29th day. In the 7 days when user does not use any medications for stopping pregnancy, she begins with ‘withdrawal bleeding’ or menstruation. The person begins with new course of Ovral G tablets even if the menses does not end at the conclusion of 7th placebo day.

  • The 28 day course is for those who wish to replace the 7 day placebo period with intake of non-hormonal reminded tablets. For the first 21 days, Ovral contraceptive pills are to be taken as described above, a tablet everyday at the same time. Dosage of active hormonal tablets must not be missed.
  • For the rest 7 days, the user has to consume a reminder or inert tablet everyday. These are non-hormonal products, which do not prohibit pregnancy, but help the person to remember starting of new Ovral birth control pill pack on 29th day.

Contraceptive Pill Missed Dose Indications

It is said that missing dose of birth control tablets lessens their efficacy. But, by human error it is very much possible to forget a dose, and fortunately there are ways to overcome this challenger. If the user forgets to take an Ovral L active pill, she has to continue taking two tablets when remembered. The course leftover must be continued as one tablet per day.

  • If two tablets consumption is missed in first and second week, then the female can take two pills everyday for the next couple of days. Then take an Ovral G tablet per day as usual. For the next 7 days, the person must utilize non-hormonal contraceptive as precaution and continue the tablets’ intake as well.
  • On forgetting to take two tablets in third and fourth week, the female ahs to initiate a new medication pack on the very same day. This condition is for those women who started using the tablets on the initial day of menstruation.
  • If the person forgets taking three active tablets in the initial period of three weeks, then she needs to dispose the Ovral contraceptive pills pack to begin with a new one on the same day, if pills cycle was begin on the day of menses.

Some of the regular and short termed side effects are headache, nausea, irregular menstruation, vomiting etc. But, medical attention is needed if the woman faces following conditions: depression, dark urine, breast lumps, continuous spotting, sudden bleeding, serious stomach pain, jaundice etc. Only in rare events does Ovral birth control pill risk pulmonary embolism, heart attack, and stroke, vein thrombosis.
