The Complete Guide To UWB Indoor Positioning System In 2021:

Posted by Ubitrack on October 21st, 2021

Indoor positioning has become one of the most impressive technologies of this century, offering multiple advantages across all industries. Moreover, the indoor positioning system is also not dependent on a single technological base for working. One such technology which makes the Indoor positioning system efficient is UWB indoor positioning system.

The UWB or Ultra-Wide Band indoor positioning system is great for accuracy up to 30 cm. Although the technology is not as efficient as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, it has its own merits regarding efficiency and consuming low energy.

How Ultra-Wide Band does base indoor positioning system work?

UWB or Ultra-Wide Band is the shortest range of technology when compared to Bluetooth Low Energy and a Wi-Fi-based indoor positioning system. The difference between Bluetooth Low Energy and a Wi-Fi-based indoor positioning system is it works on RSSI or Receive Signal Strength Indicator while Wi-Fie and Bluetooth-based systems work TOF or Time of Flight system. Trilateration or a minimum of three receivers are necessary for UWB indoor positioning system.

Generally, a UWB tag is attached to the object which needs to be tracked runs on the power generated by an external battery or forklift. One of the best advantages of the UWB indoor positioning system is the time of light to access the distance between the transmitter and the receiver.

What are the two different ways to set up an indoor positioning system?

1. Server-based ultra-wideband indoor positioning system:

The server-based UWB positioning system measures the distance between various nodes, acting as receivers for creating a successful UWB module. On the other, the central system sends the data directly to the server from which the management team can access manual reading.

2. Client based ultra-wideband indoor positioning system:

Suppose you want the data to display on the smartphone or any other mobile device directly. In that case, the UWB tags can directly communicate with the smartphone with push notifications. One can easily receive or send data using the USB port, Bluetooth, and internet.
