Teams will check in at their Team Base Camp Hotels at least five days before their first match, with players hoping to extend their stay from the guaranteed 15 days to 33, an achievement reserved only for the finalists.

There will be three types of training sites in use during the tournament: local clubs, cluster training facilities, and stadium training sites. Many have been built from scratch or renovated, representing an important part of the tournament’s legacy for grassroots football in Qatar.

The TBCHs range from four- and five-star hotels to villas, resorts, and non-hotel accommodations, including sports academy residences and school/university housing. Besides facilities such as treatment rooms, they feature dedicated common areas to safeguard teams’ privacy and also comply with the relevant security protocols.

A total of 162 inspection visits were organized for the teams that participated in the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers, starting in October 2019. FIFA and the Host Country take their responsibility concerning workers’ rights very seriously. As part of these efforts, FIFA and Qatar are implementing an unprecedented due diligence process to protect the rights and well-being of workers at a total of 159 hotels, including all of those that will host participating teams.

This work is being carried out in close partnership with the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy and involves collaboration with trade unions and other independent monitors, as well as the International Labour Organization. Over recent months, FIFA has also supported member associations in their interactions with hotels concerning workers’ rights and is encouraged by the constructive relationships built around this important topic.

The Qatar Stars League (QSL) yesterday held its technical meeting to review arrangements and preparations for the high-profile QNB Stars League match between Al Arabi and Al Rayyan to be played on Thursday at the Lusail Stadium, one of the eight venues for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. 

Representatives from the QSL, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, Security Department, and the two teams besides the Match Commissioner and Co-Ordinator attended the meeting. During the meeting, the organizational procedures for match-day operations were discussed while the match-day operations area, pitch, and both teams’ dressing rooms inside the stadium were also inspected. Football World Cup: More than half a million people sign up to volunteer at FIFA events

More than half a million people have now signed up on FIFA’s global volunteer platform. The FIFA volunteer program, revamped in December 2020, is the largest of its kind in sport, allowing everyone who signs up on the registration portal to apply to take part in any future FIFA tournament. Volunteer numbers have soared from 100,000 since October 2021, with the fast-approaching FIFA World Cup™ unsurprisingly proving the biggest draw.

The spread of volunteers across all events is fascinating and, with the Qatar Football World Cup 2022™ on the horizon, the regions closest to Qatar are strongly represented: 43.2% are from Asia and 40.2% from Africa. English is the most commonly spoken language among applicants (94.4%), while 23.8% speak French, 16.7% Spanish, and 3.8% German. Almost half of the volunteers 48.9%, to be precise – speak a language other than the aforementioned four. 

Overall, 53.1% of volunteers are in employment, while 34.4% are students. In terms of age groups, 24- to 34-year-olds lead the way (42.9%) ahead of 18- to 24-year-olds, who make up 36%, while 35- to 44-year-olds comprise 15.6% and 5.5% of volunteers are aged 45 or over.

Applications for the Qatar Football World Cup 2022 volunteer program the largest such scheme in Qatar’s history will close on Sunday, 31 July at 23:59. The program is aimed at bringing people together through football to deliver the first Football World Cup in the Middle East and Arab world while celebrating their mutual love for the game and showcasing the true spirit of Qatar. It will put 20,000 passionate volunteers at the heart of the tournament’s operations and create a proud volunteering legacy in the region.

“Billions of people will be watching when the world’s greatest football event occurs in our home this November. Interviews will be completed by 13 August, when the tournament reaches the 100 days-to-go milestones.
