Putting Green Turf For Your Backyard

Posted by Golf Lounge on August 29th, 2022

What sort of putting green turf is right for your backyard? This is a common question that comes up as people are planning on adding an artificial turf putting green to their home and want to make sure they get the most use and longest life out of the materials. Let’s take a moment to look at some of the different turf options.

One thing that will be very important to consider when it comes to artificial turf is what part of the country you live in and therefore what sort of climate and weather patterns would your green undergo. In truth as long as you go with a high quality synthetic grass then it will be able to stand the weather and the sunlight as long as it has adequate drainage so that it doesn’t hold water for any significant amount of time.

In fact one of the big reasons why a synthetic putting green is so recommended for backyard applications is that you can truly use it all four seasons of the year. If you get heavy snow you can simply blow it off and still have perfect green fake grass to continue your golf practice.

The key for putting green turf is to make sure that everything has been installed correctly. For instance, the sub base of your personal green is essential to the proper function and providing a variety of breaks and putting angles on your green. It is also highly recommended to use aluminum cups for your holes as this will make sure that it will stand up to weather conditions better than a plastic cup which can crack pretty easily and lead to an expensive hole repair.

As usual I like to ask questions to people out there who have their own putting green turf installed so that everyone can find out what their experience was like and if they have any extra tips or recommendations to make sure that we all get a better installation and use of our green. What turf material did you use and how has it held up over time? Also, now that you’ve had your own personal putting area, is there anything that you would do differently if you could do it all over again?
