Back pain causes and treatments

Posted by Scott Hoots on January 31st, 2023

A lot of people experience back pain at some point in their lives. This is especially true for those who spend long hours sitting at the computer or driving long distances daily. Many factors can contribute to back pain, including genetics, pregnancy and childbirth, joint pain, an accident or trauma, and poor posture. Back pain affects one in five Americans every year.

In most cases, back pain will go away after a couple of days or weeks with no medication required. However, if your back pain lasts longer than two weeks or becomes more intense due to other symptoms like muscle spasms or weakness then you may need to visit some Green Bay back pain treatment clinic.

Most common causes

Back pain is often caused by a sports injury, car accident, or another event that has occurred recently. Back pain can also be caused by an underlying illness such as joint pain. The exact cause of back pain is not always known, but many different factors may play a role in causing it. Some common causes of back pain include:

  • Sports injuries

These types of injuries occur when you are participating in a sport and hit your back on the ground or another hard object. These types of injuries are often misdiagnosed as muscle strains instead of true injuries to your back.

  • Cancer

Cancerous tumors can grow inside your vertebrae, causing them to become very painful and inflamed.

  • Joint pain

This is a condition where your cartilage wears out over time and begins to lose its flexibility. This leads to loss of motion at the joints, which increases friction between bones as they move against each other during daily activities like lifting or turning over in bed.

  • Nerve root compression

This can occur when nerves are pinched by bone fragments and other structures in the spine. This can be caused by injury or degeneration of a joint.

Top treatments for back pain

If you have lower back pain, there are plenty of things you can do to relieve it. But if you're looking for a way to relieve your lower back pain, try one of these remedies:

  • Exercise regularly. Regular exercise helps build muscle strength and endurance, which helps alleviate some of the pressure on your spine as well as improve flexibility, balance, and coordination. When combined with stretching exercises, regular exercise is even more beneficial at relieving back pain than those exercises alone.

  • Take care of your body. Eating well and getting enough sleep will help reduce stress levels and keep you healthy overall. Exercise regularly and get plenty of rest when you need it most — if you don't get enough sleep or eat well during stressful times, it can cause more harm than good by making your body more susceptible to illness or injury.

  • Relax every day. Stress affects our bodies in many ways — from causing digestive problems to increasing our risk for heart disease — so taking steps toward reducing your stress level is key if you want relief from back pain symptoms.
