Review: Qantas A330 Business Class

Posted by jacksonjames on February 9th, 2023

We tested the Qantas Airbus A330 Business Class seat and service on one of the shortest international routes - from Perth to Singapore.

The Australian carrier and Oneworld member Qantas operates 40 flights a week from Singapore to five cities, all using the same flat-bed product in business class, thanks to Manley Miles for jumping on board and thoroughly reviewing the experience.

I took a trip on the shortest Australia-Singapore flight between Perth and Lion City to find out what you can expect from a Qantas business class flight long-haul product.

Details of the trip

Flight: QF71 from Perth T3 to Singapore Changi T1
Category: Business
Seat: 5 thousand
Aircraft type: Airbus A330-300
Aircraft registration: VH-QPC
Aircraft age: 19.1 years
Date: December 2022
Departure / arrival: 11:25 / 16:45
Flight time: 5 hours 20 minutes
Cost: 38750 Avios + 6.82 AUD (approx S)

The AUD6.82 taxes and fees on this flight are mainly related to mandatory taxes and fees imposed by the Australian government and Perth Airport, which you will also pay when redeemed by Singapore Airlines on this route.

The difference is a small fuel surcharge of A.50 (about S) charged by Qantas.

Thompson vantage xl seat

Qantas was the first customer for the Thompson Aero Vantage XL business class seat, introducing it on the same Airbus A330-300 on domestic flights in December 2014, and then making its international debut the following month to and from Singapore.

Antas calls this the Business Suite, although it's not really a suite because there are no locked doors, although the privacy is very good and there's plenty of personal space.

The seat is now available on all Qantas business class wide-body aircraft, including the carrier's flights to and from Singapore, having been recently installed on the Boeing 787 and Airbus A380 with some additional enhancements.

Here are the main stats:

Layout: 1-2-1
Seat width: 23" - 24" (58cm - 61cm)
Bed length: 80 inches (203 cm)
Tilt: 180 degrees
IFE screen: 16 inches (41 cm) HD
For comparison, this seat is 3 to 4 inches wider than Singapore Airlines' regional wide-body business class seat, with about 3 inches longer bed, making it a better option on the Perth route, where SIA operates exclusively on its own small space. regional aircraft. Business Class products on the A350 Medium Hall or Boeing 787-10.
