Glenn Metcalfe

Glenn Metcalfe, an Auckland native, participated in all four games of Scotland's victory in the Championship. Between 1998 and 2003, he won 40 caps.

Scotland Championship Winners: Alan Tait

Tait will be remembered as one of Scotland's all-time greats. He was a dual-national international who competed for both Scotland and the British & Irish Lions.

After retiring from playing, Tait started coaching and served as the Newcastle Falcons' head coach until 2012.

He later had successful stints with Yorkshire Carnegie, in addition to Scotland's national and youth teams, and in January 2023 he was named head coach of Southern Knights, a Greenyards Super6 team.

John Leslie

John Leslie, another Kiwi-born great, is arguably widely known for his try over Wales in the 1999 Championship that he scored after just ten seconds. Leslie, a Lower Hutt-born centre who later achieved great things for Otago and the Highlanders, moved to Scotland and quickly established himself in midfield alongside Tait.

He relocated to New Zealand's South Island after finishing his playing career, worked as an assistant coach at the University of Otago, and later founded Leslie Rugby Coaching Business. Along with coaching adviser Jamie Joseph and former All Blacks prop Kees Meeuws, he started coaching Southern seniors in Dunedin club rugby in 2022.

Kenny Logan

Logan was a famous player for Wasps and Scotland, and he married TV host Gabby Logan (nee Yorath). After retiring, he and his wife competed on the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing in 2007. He remained prominent as a result. While Alesha Dixon won the title of overall champion that year, Kenny outperformed his wife by coming in fifth place.

Since his retirement, Logan has stayed devoted to his family and charitable efforts, particularly in spreading awareness of dyslexia. A year after receiving a prostate cancer diagnosis, Logan was given the all-clear in February 2023.

Gregor Townsend

In the 1999 Championship, Townsend broke all previous records by scoring tries against each opponent. Since his retirement, he has built a wildly successful coaching career, first with Scotland and most recently with Glasgow Warriors.

Townsend was appointed Scotland's head coach in 2017 and has since led his team to a streak of historic triumphs. During his tenure, Townsend has led Scotland to three straight victories over England, as well as historic road triumphs in Wales and France.

Gary Armstrong

The "Junkyard Dog," as they dubbed him, is No. 9 Gary Armstrong, widely regarded as Scotland's greatest player ever.

Armstrong, a former amateur truck driver, tried his hand at farming in addition to returning to the trucking industry once his rugby career came to an end.

Since then, he has successfully transitioned to the grain industry and, as part of his continued work to support the My Name'5 Doddie Weir foundation, played for Stewart Melville's third XV at the age of 51.

By playing for Stewart's Melville RFC's third XV in 2018 as a favour for his old colleague and companion former Scotland worldwide Finlay Calder, Armstrong also made a surprising comeback to the field.

Stuart Grimes

The former Newcastle Falcons lock with the headband amassed an astounding 71 caps for his nation. He remained in the northeast of England after retiring and has since worked as a buyer for Persimmon Homes, where he is currently the managing director.

Cammie Murray

Murray is considered a sort of Scottish folk hero because of his matchups versus Jonah Lomu while wearing a Scotland jersey, where he had varied varying levels of success.

Scott Murray

After his playing career ended, Murray, a former basketball sportsman, transitioned into coaching. The lock got things going in France with a productive stint at Mont de Marsan once came back to Scotland to take charge of Scotland A.

The former second-rower, however, has since immigrated to the United States, where he is still a Major League Rugby coach.

Budge Pountney

At the young age of 29, Budge Pountney unexpectedly declared his departure from Scotland. He continued to play for Northampton Saints for an additional season before being dropped into Paul Grayson's coaching position at Franklin's Gardens.

Pountney subsequently transitioned from being a poacher to a gamekeeper while serving as a citing officer. Then he went back to coaching schoolboy rugby, first at Marlborough College and then at Regent House. He is now Ulster's manager of rugby development.

Dave Hilton

Martin Leslie, the younger brother of centre John Leslie. He was a tenacious flanker for Scotland who amassed an astonishing ten tries in his 37 appearances.
