In a candid interview given before the Blues' opening Super Rugby Pacific season match opposite the Highlanders on Saturday evening in Dunedin, Barrett discussed his decision to move to Japan after the Rugby World Cup, his reasons for doing so, and his belief that he remains has an abundance of elite rugby left in him.

“When inquired whether he would see himself playing for the All Blacks forward to the next four years, he responded, "Obviously, provided I thought my health, as well as heart, remained ready and prepared for it."

Many worthwhile factors should be taken into account."

After missing the final preseason game over the Chiefs due to sickness, Barrett appears to have a solid probability of being chosen to start at No. 10 for the Blues against the Highlanders. He'll likely join an all-All Black backline that includes Stephen Perofeta, Caleb Clarke, and Mark Telea in the back three, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck at halfback, and Rieko Ioane and Rieko Tuivasa-Sheck in the middle.

"He stated, "There have already been practising sessions at which I immediately began without performing a preliminary game, however, I do not really remember I've ever experienced a training camp in which all the things remained similar. "My esteem is not low.”
