Are you interested in becoming an aircraft mechanic? This is a great career choice. There are always new pilots, so being an aircraft mechanic is a great job. The goal of the job is to keep pilots safe. Good mechanics will always be needed as airfields wouldn't work without them.

The first step in becoming an aircraft mechanic is to decide what type of planes and engines you would like to work on. You need to decide what type of mechanic license you want. You might decide to specialize in helicopters, small personal aircraft, or military jets. Before you decide on a program of study, take the time to determine your goals.

Next, choose a quality private jet maintenance companies. Many schools require you to pass both written and oral exams before you can receive your FAA mechanic certificate. The school will provide training for you to pass all these tests. It is important to choose a school that suits your needs. Are you looking for a four-year degree? You should consider a four-year university with a maintenance program. Many universities that offer degrees in aviation engineering or management will also offer maintenance programs. Are you only looking for a certificate? If so, you should consider a private technical school or a public college.

Before you start any program of study, it is best to do your research. You will have a great career as an aviation mechanic if you do your research and weigh all options carefully. According to FAA regulations, certified mechanic schools must provide at least 1,900 hours of instruction. School coursework typically lasts 18-24 months and provides training in the use of tools and equipment. A good school will allow you to spend about 80 percent of your time learning practical skills on the job under the guidance of qualified instructors. It is not a good idea to use old, worn-out equipment in your training.

It's not about sitting in lecture halls or taking tests to learn how to be an aircraft mechanic. While studying aircraft mechanics, one of the tasks you will be doing is disassembling and reassembling entire aircraft systems. This will help you to better understand the mechanics of aircraft. Students will learn how to maintain and repair aircrafts using a combination classroom lecture and hands-on experience.

However, your license will not be issued until school ends. FAA regulations require that you have completed 18 months of supervised work in order to obtain your license. You can either take the power plant or airframe licensing tests, or both. This is the combined A&P exam. You will need to get a notarized declaration from your employer or your supervisor mechanic if you want to document and sign off all your work hours.

You will now have the education and hours to apply for your license. This is only possible after many hours spent working under, in, and on top of planes. You are the most important person on the airfield once you have your license. Enjoy it because it is something you have earned. People could die without your expertise. Take pride in your chosen profession and strive to do well.
