Getting Fit Doesn’t Need to be a Solo Affair

Getting fit doesn’t need to be a solo affair; in fact, you are more likely to continue your fitness regime and enjoy your progress when doing it with others. This is due to the fact that you will support each other in your training and inspire each other to keep going, even when times are hard or you don’t feel like you have the energy or can be bothered to make an effort.

You will, no doubt, feel better and more invigorated after taking part in whatever form of exercise that you have chosen to do.

#1 Take up a martial art

There are several reasons to take up a martial art, and it is not all about keeping or getting fit. Learning how to protect yourself and others can inspire confidence as well as help you lose weight, improve coordination, self-discipline, and gain control of your body.

It is important that when you decide to join a martial arts class, you choose the right sort of establishment with qualified tutors and trainers to coach you through your learning. You may feel intimidated just thinking about joining an MMA training club; however, they cater to all abilities and preferences, from the young child to mixed groups, and often offer women-only classes.

#2 Join a running or walking club

Of course, martial arts aren’t for everyone, and if you are happier running or walking with friends to lose weight, then this is ok too. There are likely to be running and walking clubs for you to join in your local area, and these can be great fun if you are new to your location or enjoy exercising in a pack.

Walkers in clubs tend to either be fast-paced or more of an amble, so it is important that when you enquire about the club, you ask about the general pace of the walk before you join in. This could save embarrassment on your part should you turn up wanting a route march only to find that you are walking with those that are there for a stroll or vice versa.

#3 Attend a keep fit class

You could sign up for a keep fit class either at your local gym or look to see if one is being held down at your local community center. These classes come in all forms, from various levels of yoga to different types of aerobics. It is important that you select one that is provided for your level of fitness; otherwise, you may find that you have wasted your money as you will not be able to join in, or you hurt yourself trying.

If you let the instructor know of your ability when you first join up, it is likely that they will either instruct you to perform different, easier exercises while the rest of the class is performing more complicated versions. Either way, they will introduce you to the rest of the class and try to make you feel welcome; if you find that this is less than forthcoming, you have the option of taking your money and your time to another class run by a different instructor.
