Guided Tours of the Lake District: Places to Visit

Posted by Brian Miller on August 4th, 2016

There are many tour operators who specialize in guided tours of the Lake District. They have appointed some local people as tourists to show you the best places in the district. These professionals have been in this district since years. And for a few of them the Lake District is their native place. Naturally, they would know better about this region other than anyone else. The Lake District tours will take you some of the biggest attractions, where you can totally unwind yourself.

Windermere
Extending over ten miles between the Newby Bridge and the Ambleside, this is the largest lake in the district. It has always been a major tourist attraction.  The main focus is the Bowness-on-Windermere. The western shoreline is quieter, particularly around the wood trails of the Claife Heights.

Dove Cottage
Dove cottage, the first home of the famous William Shakespeare in the Lake District. This whitewashed cottage is now owned by the Trust; the place is full of memorabilia, which includes his passport, a portrait of his favourite dog, a pair of reading glasses, so on and so forth.  If you go at the back of the cottage you will find a garden, where William Wordsworth used to sit for hours and compose poetry. On going there you can even realize the hidden poet in you. The cottage can be entered by a guide. However, you will need to buy tickets for entry. Sometimes the guided tours of the Lake District package include the tickets as well. So, once your book for one of these tours, you need not to pay for anything else.

Hill Top
The farmhouse situated in Near Sawrey is the place where Beatrix Potter composed some of the best known stories. Your guide will be the best to give you a proper briefing about the place. Not only that they know the right time to visit the farmhouse. Normally, the place remains crowded with so many tourists around. With a guide by your side you will make sure that you get to see the place in peace without much rush.

Great Langdale
It is home to the Lake District’s iconic hikes. Individuals mostly choose to deal with the Langdale Pikes. Well, then there are a few who like to witness the challenging circuit along Crinkle Crags. Regardless of what you choose, the views guarantee to be stirring. Your guide will be there to guide and advice you on the tour.

Since there are so many tour operators offering the Lake District tours you should try your best to take a wise decision. And you can do that by researching about the agency as much as possible. You can take referrals from your friends and relatives or make online research.
