Beyond Westlake Hills: Growth in the City of Bee Cave

Posted by Brian Talley on February 20th, 2017

Just west of Westlake Hills towards Lake Travis is Bee Cave, a beautiful city with a small town feel, despite a recent growth rate that matches that of the nearby greater Austin area. Originally incorporated in 1987, Bee Cave was considered a village as recently as 2009 but became a city following the 2010 United States Census. Shopping centers such as the Hill Country Galleria, among others, have sprung up as well, as the population has grown.

In 2000, the U.S. Census counted 656 people living in the village of Bee Cave, but by the 2010 census, there were 3,925 residents of the newly reclassified city. The growth continued, as the population of the City of Bee Cave increased to 5,287 in 2013, then to an estimated 6,292 in 2015. It is likely Bee Cave will continue to boom, and according to the city’s mission statement, it will embrace this “with a balanced and progressive vision for future development and growth, in an inclusive and environmentally responsible manner.”

Bee Cave has come a long way since the 1850’s, when Dietrich Bohls first moved to the hill country land in order to escape the hustle and bustle of Austin, which had grown to 900 people -- far too crowded for Dietrich. But, residents still enjoy living in the area for many of the same reasons. Bee Cave residents have all the benefits of suburban Hill Country living, with quiet neighborhoods and an abundance of land for outdoor recreation, all a short commute to the big city of Austin, just 14 miles away.

Those considering a relocation to the west Austin area and looking at Westlake Hills luxury homes might include Bee Cave as an extension of the search. There are many ideal properties in this town, and the friendly folks at Regent Property Group are always available to help home buyers find their perfect Bee Cave or Westlake home.
