The new star has been born: 2018 Infiniti QX70

The Japanese automaker is giving a number of models revamp for the upcoming year and the new 2018 Infiniti QX70 is among them. This is the second release of this model, after its first launch in 2008. Previously, there was an FX model, which was the original prototype used as a basis for the development of recent versions. There will be a few variations available: Premium, Technology, Sports and Limited.

Exterior and Interior Changes

This vehicle is a head-turner. The first visual impression is that a lot of effort has been invested to achieve the right balance between the curvy chassis shape and the large body of an SUV. The black-mash grille like that of all the other Infiniti models has been added. Its grille also contains a camera which is a part of the round view system and looks good with the striking new bumper lights. The body sits at 7.4'' above the ground. Limited and Sports versions have 21'' alloy wheels fit the chassis well. The Premium and Technology have 18" alloy wheels. The side vents are body-colored, while the mirrors are black regardless of the main color of the vehicle. On the top, there are roof rails and a sunroof. A coupe-like looking back is fitted with LED tail lights and a double exhaust. The available colors are white, black and shades of blue and bronze.

The interior has a sporty look and everything has a curvy design which matches the exterior. Lack of space because of the low roof might be a downside. The seats, however, provide enough comfort. There is a smart adjustor for the seats and the steering wheel, which can remember your favorite settings and adjust everything automatically for each driver who uses the car. It can also pull the seat back automatically when you open the door to exit the car. A multi-featured display can show you numerous data ranging from driving aids like map-navigation, front and rear view cameras, to technical info like tire pressure. The back seats can be flipped forward to extend the boot space. Between the back seats is a middle part which if pulled down has a beverage cup holder. Another high-tech feature is the heating system which can heat the seats, ensuring a comfortable drive even in the harshest weather conditions.

Some redesigning effort is visible at the first glance, and the extra features have been added to the car's interior and engine as well. The suspension has been changed slightly. If you switch it to "sports" mode it gets rough and this option should be used on good roads only, although it is not as rough as in the classic sports cars. There are some new driving modes available, like the snow mode which brings on a gentler drive suitable for ice-covered roads. The exterior has also been changed somewhat, to achieve a trendier look with curvier edges, new designer front lights, new-look bumpers, and modified grille. As an addition, in comparison to the previous model, a USB port is provided between the seats, and an acoustic lane-keeping-assist gadget which beeps when you cross the line on the road is available as well.

Powerful Engine and Transmission

What a powerful engine for an SUV. The new model comes with the 3.7-liter V6 engine that produces around 325 HP. The 20-gallon fuel tank can last 452 miles in a rear-wheel drive version or 428 miles in an all-wheel drive. Its fuel consumption is 17-24 MPG. The transmission is normally automatic with a seven-speed gearbox, but you can switch to manual using paddles behind the steering wheel. The new model will also have the towing capacity up to 2000 lbs.

Driving experience

If you want a smooth drive, you've got it. If you want to let go and cruise on a highway the top-notch cruise control is there too. And if you are in for a bit of performance, this beauty can speed up like a real sports car. It is either a rear-wheel drive or an all-wheel drive with a rear wheel bias. This bias distribution can be adjusted if desired. The vehicle's versatility is sure set to attract a variety of buyers. Unless you are testing its limits, a regular drive will provide you and your passengers with a "living room experience" - cozy and cushy.

Negatives

The 3867 lbs heavy vehicle with some performance ability has to be a fuel consumer. The biggest downside of this car is its petrol consumption. The low roof can make the cabin slightly uncomfortable for drivers taller than 6'2". Also, the steering wheel might be too close to the pedals behind it. Some of the plastic and leather fixtures on the interior might come off if shaken by hand with medium-strength force. If you wanted to drive it in the mountains, bushes, and deserts, you might be a little disappointed. As its look suggests, this beauty is a city sleeker and its off-road performance might fall short of what you would expect from a four-wheel drive.

Warranties and MSRP/ Release Date

Basic warranty is provided for 4 years at 60,000 Miles, drivetrain warranty for 6 years at 70000 Miles, corrosion warranty for 7 years at unlimited Miles, and Roadside Assistance for 4 years at unlimited Miles.

The Infinity is a luxury arm of Nissan. This model has all the features of a high-class four-wheel drive and its price is competitive in comparison to similar models from Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and other brands in their full SUV class. The MSRP is just over 47,000. Find out more about 2018/19 car models.
