Buying a paper shredder is a great idea for safeguarding private information in print or writing. It could be anything from property documents and tax files to confidential records of any kind that need to be shredded as the best way of preventing data thefts.

There are a variety of personal paper shredders to choose from. You could pick them on the basis of capacity or on the basis of the cuts and shapes they shred the papers into. Two of the prominent ones are - cross cut and strip cut.

The cross cut desktop paper shredder is comparatively, a slower shredder model that cuts the paper into little pieces. It does not require frequent changing of the shredder bag because the smaller pieces would take up less space and the bag would take longer to become completely saturated.

Cross cut shredders need to be generously oiled on a regular basis if you want to keep them working in the best condition for as long as possible. The best part about this type of shredders is that they offer a very high amount of security considering the small size of every shred. In case you work with highly confidential information most of the time, it is best to opt for a cross cut shredder to maximize your data safety. It is important to remember that higher the level of security that is offered by a shredder, the higher does it tend to cost.

The strip cut shredder simply turns the waste paper into a bunch of strips. So, this is a faster option. At the same time, you may have to change the shredder bag a little too often as it fills up faster too. The instruction manual that comes with every strip cut shredder model would specify the rules of the machine’s upkeep. Generally, they won’t need to be oiled too much and too frequently.

Though the shredded documents would be mostly incomprehensible anyway, the security level that is promised by these shredders is not as high as the cross cut counterparts. But that doesn’t mean you can’t rely on them. Mildly confidential documents that are disposed off on a regular basis can very well be put through a strip cut. Besides, if you are looking for cheaper options, this is your best bet.

When choosing your shredder, keep in mind that you have to check the dimensions and specifications so that you can make a wiser decision.
