Dark art in literature is usually referred to as the creative approach taken by the old school authors in presenting a literary piece of the horror genre. More common with horror comics these days, this form of art is considered to be an excellent way of bringing out the fear and loathing that are a common string in these comic books. The art is employed by the illustrators of these books to apt out the deadly scenes and horrifying images to make them look as convincing as possible. This art form, drawn by all the major cartoonists and painters in the most eminent comics are regarded as legendary standouts in the realm of horror.

These books usually include a lot of myths that have terrifying storylines to bring about that creepy feeling to provide the readers with the much needed dosage of fear. Horror comics are loved by readers of all age groups and is a more likely choice for the daring readers who can take it all. Offering an exceptional experience of exploring through the kingdom of sins and vices, you will never lose the track of the dark, cold shadow that follows you throughout the storyline. Sometimes, the dark art is punched with Gothic art to make the characters more like mythical figures coming out of ancient mythological texts.

The colors applied to a typically outstanding dark art composition get the majority of the work done, as they play to give the picture a distinct solid, more 3D-like effect. The colors also have symbolic significance that readers, who delve deeper into the sentences and illustrations can make out. While crimson red color is the most common color seen to be applied in the horror comics, other deep shades with a black tinge about them make the meaning more accurate. For instance, red with a golden glow, green color as dark as the human bile, an ominous gray, dirty white and dark brown play a primary fiddle with all drawings in this genre.

These art works are digitally prepared instead of the customary canvas paintings, as the relevant software eases and speeds up the process. While a stereotypical painting job takes a lot of time to bring  in the perfection, these software are engineered to bolster the painting task. Photoshop is the generally known software used to create dark art drawings. However, Z-Brush and other programming tools can also be used for minimal usage of expertise. In both ways, the artist should be an expert in handling such editing software. Even some years back, this form of art in horror comics was a step behind, as people, mostly preferred black and white painting for a simplistic layout. But, presently people’s taste has changed, and they prefer the more realistic art form to get the true haunting feeling of fear.
