Some of them are even fans of a particular writer and love reading their work every now and then. There have been many writers in literary history who have made a major contribution to the subject. Their works are exemplary even after years, and many avid readers and writers are influenced by them. In fact, their novels have been adopted into many plays, movies, television series.

So, here we will talk about the writers whose books every literature student must read for once:

1. William Shakespeare
I’m sure that everyone has heard about Shakespeare and are familiar with his books whether you love reading or not. He is popularly known as England’s national poet and had written many dramas, poems, which included comedies, history, and tragedies. Who can forget the famous love story ‘Romeo and Juliet’ which is also the most common concept for stage plays in schools, colleges, and professional theaters. Apart from this, there are other books that are given by him like Hamlet, Julius Caesar, Othello, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, etc.

2. Charles Dickens
Charles Dickens is one of the greatest Victorian novelists who created some amazing fictional characters. His first successful publish was Pickwick after which he wrote many other books like Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, David Copperfield, and more which were well received by the audience. Most of his stories were based on his observation of real people and society which were the base of his satire and humor.

3. Jane Austen
Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Emma are some of the significant works of Jane Austen which have gained huge popularity. Her stories always have women as central characters and show their journey while exploring the community. Her style of writing is very gripping and full of ups and downs but ends on a happy note. None of her novels have been re-written, which is a proof of her perfection.

4. George Eliot
Although her real name was Mary Ann Evans, she used a pen name George Eliott and is famous for her masterpiece Middlemarch. But other than this, she has written some outstanding novels like The Mill On The Floss, Silas Marner, Romola, Adam Bede, etc. Her novels were mostly political which were based on small-town and its society. This was also one of the reasons for using a male name as a novelist because she wanted to come out of typical writing style of other female writers who were limited to romance and to get more acceptance from readers. The way she used to describe the interaction of characters would show her excellent understanding of human psychology.

5. Leo Tolstoy
Leo Tolstoy is a Russian writer, famous for his short stories and novels which include one of the greatest books of all time War and Peace, and also Anna Karenina, The Death of Ivan Ilyich, which were appreciated equally by critics and readers. Most of his books are derived from his childhood and real-life incidents. His common idea was that a person’s quality and purpose of life is dependent on his everyday activities.

6. George Orwell
Eric Blair was the real name of George Orwell and is famous for his two most influential books Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty Four which were published in the twentieth century. Along with the novelist, he was a renowned journalist, literary critic, and essayist. In his writings, he has innovated many new words which are now a part of the language like doublethink, thoughtcrime, and much more, but apart from this, his style is very simple and easy to understand as he avoided using jargons or foreign phrases.

These were the top six writers, in no particular order, that are highly recommended if you are a literature student or like to read great books.
