Healthy Eye Tips for Contact Lens Wearers

Contact lenses look great, however, they need extra care in handling. If you are new to contact lenses, you might struggle with many things with contact lenses. No matter whether you are wearing red contact lenses for Halloween or green ones for a dinner date, you need to take some precautions while putting on lenses.

To help you out, here is a short guide that will help you deal with everyday concerns with a contact lens.

Is your contact lens inside out?

Every newbie lens wearer struggle with this question – How can I tell if the contact lens is inside-out?

You can use this trick to sort it out. Place the lens on your finger forming a cup. Hold the lens directly in front of your eyes looking at the side of the cup. If a ‘U’ shape forms with the top edges, it is inside out. If it just forms ‘U’, it is correct.

If you are wearing tinted lens, the edge of the lens should look deep tinted. For example, if you are wearing red contact lenses, the edge should look very red.

Some lenses also contain laser marking, like brand name or small numbers to help you out. If you can read the marks properly, the lens is correct and ready to be put on.

How to apply contact lenses?

This is perhaps the first thing a newbie contact lens wearer searches on Google to know the answer. Here is a quick guide.

  • Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly before you apply contact lenses.
  • Try to avoid oily and scented soaps that might stick to lens surface.
  • In addition, don’t mix up lenses with right or left eye. You need to apply them on the right eye.
  • Gently shake your lens case to loosen it.
  • Place contact lenses on the tip of your middle or index finger. With the help of fingers and thumb of your other hand, stretch out your upper and lower eyelid to the maximum.
  • Position the lens on your eyes and keep your face a little tilted rather than directly facing the mirror so that you can watch the curvature of your eye.
  • Apply the lens by placing and stretching it on your eye.
  • Close your eyes gently and roll it to help it settle.
  • Look closely in the mirror to make sure it is centered on your eye.
  • Your vision should be clear after applying lens.

Pay heed to these points, and you won’t feel difficulty in handling contact lenses.
