Cleaning and Maintenace Tips for Marble Floors

Marble tiles give homes the type of class and elegance that they need. They can be installed in almost any part of the house and can infuse any space with elegance and a hint of glamour. Marble tiles are also very durable. They can withstand weather elements and the daily wear-and-tear of areas with high foot traffic. But just like any item or material in the house, marble floors still need to be maintained and cleaned. Here are some cleaning tips to keep in mind:

  • Marble tiles are natural stones that are polished to be smooth. They need to be maintained in order to keep their lustrous and polished surface. While they are some of the strongest natural stones know, they are also delicate—which means that you should never use harsh chemicals to clean these tiles.
  • One of the best ways to clean your marble flooring is by using a combination of baking soda, water, spray, and microfiber cloth. You just need to mix the water with the baking soda. Then, spray the mixture to the marble surface and rub it using the microfiber cloth. Remember that marble should not be air-dried to protect the surface. You need to wipe the residues of the mixture with a dry cloth.
  • Another DIY tip which you can use to clean marble floors is to mix baking soda with dish soap. You just need to put baking soda on the floor that needs to be cleaned then, pour a small amount of dish soap on the area. Get a brush and start cleaning. Repeat the steps until the rust and other dirt are removed from the marble floor.
  • Always remember to wipe the marble floor dry to protect the exterior of the marble tiles. Also, don’t keep the baking soda lying on the floor to prevent children from reaching it.
  • You can also clean marble floors using a mild liquid detergent. You just need to mix a tiny amount of detergent with warm water in a bucket and pour it on the marble floor. Use a large sponge to clean the area. For hard-to-reach portions, use a soft brush to remove any mildew and dirt. You should then inspect the area for any spots that have not yet been cleaned. Wipe the mixture of detergent and water remaining on the floor with a dry cloth.
