If Your Stress Levels Are High, Your Risk for Pancreatic Cancer Can Increases As

The newest study has shown that acceleration of pancreatic cancer’s development can happen due to excessive stress. This is caused by the release of fight or flight hormones from the body. In consequence, the usage of Beta Blockers, which is a medication used for the inhibition of those hormones, managed to improve the survival rates of a mouse who suffered from the disease.

•    Patients who used beta blockers to treat heart disease showed improved longevity:  The patients who had an advanced stage of pancreatic cancer, and used certain beta blockers for their heart conditions have lived for sixty six percent longer compared to the patients who did not take the beta blockers. The study was published online in Cancer Cell.

•    Studies show that stress promotes growth of a tumor: Being emotionally and psychologically stressed has a huge role in the development of a tumor. This is due to the surging of hormones throughout the body to ensure that the body is capable of being able to respond to any danger it may be perceiving. The study was made to find the association between stress and the development of pancreatic cancer.

•    After fourteen weeks of testing, thirty eight percent of mice developed symptoms: These mice were housed in conditions conducive to developing stress, such as cramped living spaces. There was also a control batch with normative conditions. Post three and a half months, 38 percent of the mice had developed neoplastic pancreatic lesions, which are precursors to actually getting pancreatic cancer.

Treating these mice with chemotherapy and beta blockers ensured that they lived for much more time than mice who just had chemotherapy. Similarly, six hundred and thirty-one patients who underwent surgeries for treating pancreatic cancer lived longer if they used beta blockers. Further analysis is needed but so far, the results seem promising.
