What All Makes Ranthambore Fort a Must-Visit Place

Situated near Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan, Ranthambore Fort can be found inside the Ranthambore National Park, previous hunting zone of the Jaipur royalties before India became a self-governing nation. The Ranthambore Fort is believed to have got its name from two neighboring knolls, the Rann and the Thambhore. This Fort is placed on the Thambhore Knoll, in front of Rann hill, and provides some splendid sights of the National Park to the visitors.

The interiors of Ranthambore Fort are a sight to behold. The exemplary craftsmanship has to be seen to be believed and has few parallels across the globe. The ramparts of Ranthambore Fort are 7 Km in length and comprise a vast area of almost 4 Sq km. Around Ranthambore fort, there are several ancient carcass, together with the temples, palaces, step-wells, residences and cenotaphs. The Ranthambore Fort is basically delimited by enormous stonewalls, which are reinforced by strongholds and looms.

Visitors can see a lot of bird species and Langurs, the strange tiny cats, over here. At times, you might even come across leopards.

Time to visit

Best time to visit is during winters (November to February), as the climate will be very pleasant with a maximum temperature of 32°C and a minimum of 4°C. Ideal weather during daytime makes sightseeing comfortable. Summers (March to June) and Monsoons (July to September) are very warm and the maximum temperature shoots up to 46°C, so it can be very hot during summers and humid during monsoons.

Things to do in and around the Fort

The visitors to this Fort can explore the historical significance and the cultural heritage of the area. They can visit Kachida Valley, Surwal Lake, Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve or National Park and some of the other historical places such as the Jogi Mahal, Raj Bagh Ruins, Ganesha temple and the Jain Temple.

Business hours

The fort can be visited during the safaris of the National Park that occurs only between October to June. The timings are in between 7AM to 10:30 AM or 6:30AM to 10AM in the morning and in between 2PM and 6:30 in the evening, during different months.

Reaching the Fort

For the tourists coming via air can land at the Jaipur (Sanganer) airport from where the Fort is about 180 km away. Then they can avail taxis or buses from Sanganer Airport to get to Ranthambore with ease. Those travelling by train can get down at Sawai Madhopur Railway Station, which is at a distance of 10 km from the Ranthambore Fort.

So, it won’t be a little much to say that in case you happen to be in Rajasthan, visiting the Ranthambore Fort should be top-most in your priority. However, time the visit to the Fort during the winters to enjoy the sights without any discomfort.
