Tiny Living Room decorating

Tiny spaces seems to be a trend now. It all started with the whole minimalist movement with Marie Kondo and getting rid of everything that doesn’t bring you joy. Now people seemed to have to moved one step further and getting rid of extra space they might not need.

I did enjoy cleaning out my closet and now have way more utility out of the clothes I already own but I’m not sure about tiny spaces and moving into my closet. But I totally understand the need to living in smaller space out of budgeting reason. Just because you have a smaller living room doesn’t mean it needs to lack in style.

There’s so many thing you can do with smaller spaces that don’t work as well in larger ones. Smaller spaces are inherently more cozy and more rustic styles work better with a cozier feel. Consider a more modern industrial decor style for a smaller living room.

I also love decorations that are also multi-functions, both form and function for efficiency. There are lots of multi-functional ways to decorate a smaller living room like having floor pillows that double as extra seating, or using an ottoman as a coffee table and food stool. I have also found most people trying to decorate a smaller living room are coming in with some existing furniture, perhaps a hand me down brown leather couch from Mom? Don’t worry, brown leather sofas are actually quite versatile when it comes to style. You can brighten it up with a few colorful throw pillows and all of the sudden it takes on a bohemian vibe. Or pair it with a fun shag rug and now you have a perfect Don Draper Mad men look. More maybe you prefer a more rustic farmhouse look, just add a raw edge wood coffee table and now you have a country style inspired living room. The nice thing about smaller spaces is there’s less space to decorate so you don’t have to do as much. By definition, there will be less wall space. Try a smaller wall gallery with fewer or smaller pictures. You always get a bunch printed at the local Walgreens and then buy a few cheap frames from Ikea. No one will think twice about how much you spent on the prints or that the frames were from Ikea.

The right lighting can make or break a place. I always prefer diffused light for smaller spaces. Sometimes a direct light bulb might be too much glarryg in every directly you look. Try a nice neutral lamp shade or cover of some sort, they will match any decor style and you can swap them out whenever you want a new look.

Tiny spaces doesn’t have to mean tiny in style.
