Smoking cigarettes is a common practice in the society today. Health organizations are trying their best to combat this practice in our society. One of the effective methods used is visual communication such as the cartoon displayed above. The objective of the cartoon is to grasp the attention of the viewer quickly and through the content of the picture pass on the health message. From the cartoon, I can tell that the cigarette holds the vantage point with a pistol which visibly illustrates that smoking of cigarettes leads to death. The cartoon also displays that smoking cigarettes is optional; however, the end results are not. It is important to weigh the merits and the demerits of smoking cigarettes before you do so. It simply means that a person should reflect on the effects of the pleasure of smoking cigarettes before they light the cigarette to smoke. In this cartoon, it is also clear that those who smoke cigarettes ignore the counsel of others and end up dying or losing parts of their body. A large percentage of those who smoke cigarettes ignore the consequences of smoking cigarettes, even though, there are very many adverts on the harmful effects of smoking cigarettes. The cartoon vividly displays that the victim previously received warning prior to engaging in smoking. The cartoon fulfils its descriptive purpose of informing the viewers of the consequential effects of smoking cigarettes.
