Here are some main types of skiing: Tele-mark Skiing In this type of skiing, a unique turning technique is used that is mastered by few people and admired by many people. Tele-mark skiing has its own special equipments. Alpine Skiing Alpine skiing is also known as downhill skiing. Resorts for Alpine skiing exist in cold climate areas of the world. Downhill skiing takes place in a ski resort which has specified sky runs. Free-style Skiing Freestyle skiing is all about using different tricks in skiing. Usually freestyle skiing takes place in the topography parks of the ski resorts, with an extensive range of rails, jibs, jumps, and some other amazing things. Cross Country Skiing Cross country skiing is also known as cross country racing, and it has taken its name from the type of ski race that is one third flat, one third up, and one third down. Cross country skiing or races can be either classic or freestyle. Back country Skiing and Off-piste Skiing Back country is frequently used inter-changeably with off-piste skiing. These both types are different in scope but are similar in many ways. Snow Skiing Snow skiing is very popular skiing type and has got millions of skiers from all over the world who wish to spend their holidays on snow. Snow skiing takes place in hilly and cold climate areas of the world. Speed skiing The focus in this type is to achieve the highest speed possible using skis. Normally longer skis with sleek shape achieve highest speed. Ski Jumping It is also called ski flying. In this type simply jumping is involved using skis. The skis used for this type are longer and wider than other different skis, and jumping is normally done without ski poles. Extreme Skiing Extreme skiing, by name, is risky than other skiing types. It is one of the toughest sports which take place on sharp mountain slopes of more than 45 degree. Skate Skiing This type involves fast flight on flats and hills. Some More Types of Skiing Water Skiing Water skiing is also a skiing type, which takes place on the water. It is just like recreational activity on the water. Grass Skiing Grass skiing started as a training technique for alpine skiing. Heli Skiing In Heli skiing, a helicopter is used to take the skier where normal transportation cannot reach, and then drops him on the best slope. Night skiing Day time skiing gave birth to night skiing. Jet Skiing Jet skiing also takes place on water in which a skier rides on a jet ski, and jumps over waves.
