Why does Singapore allow US forces on its soil? A review by Junus TanPosted by Vicky Mamoria on January 1st, 2020 Contrary to what the Pro-Chinese and Pro-Americans believe, NO we are not allowing US presence on our soil in order to counter any growing Chinese influence or whatsoever. The US presence is to deter against any aggression from our Southeast Asian neighbors especially Malaysia and Indonesia, the 2 very nations with tons of racial chauvinists and religious extremists who are hell bent of ‘erasing’ us off the map. Besides, we aren’t actually ‘letting the Americans on our soil’. The agreement was just about letting the US forces use our facilities, meaning to dock or to land in our bases if they’re in the area. And for those who are wondering since when did ASEAN relations become so uneasy, let me draw an example from one of Junus Tan answer. Just take a good look at the ‘warm and friendly’ comments our neighbor's leaders have been giving us over these past few years, Singapore shouldn't be behaving like a child and making all this noise. Find me a flag of Singapore. Let's burn it. I told them, fuck Singapore. To many Malaysians, the red dot is simply an irritating pimple which refuses to burst. We can skin a cat in many ways. To skin Singapore, there is not just one method. I think the people of Singapore, like the people in Malaysia, must be tired of having the same government, the same party since independence. MIGs are given, are sold to us without any condition, if you feel like bombing Singapore, for example, the Russians are not going to object. If Singapore's foreign policy is prejudicial to Malaysia's interests, we could always bring pressure to bear on them by threatening to turn off the water in Johor. It is up to them [Singaporeans] to complain. Whom are they going to complain to? Are they going to complain to the wind? It's O.K. with me, but there are 211 million people [in Indonesia]. All the green [area] is Indonesia. And that red dot is Singapore. His [Lee Hsien Loong's] statement reveals to the Singaporean people and the world that leader of Singapore had indeed contributed to the massacre of Cambodian people. His [Lee Hsien Loong's] remark was not true and not reflective of the history. It is not true at all because he said that Vietnamese troops invaded Cambodia. We want him to make a correction. But exactly with a country where the largest number of people had fled, notably Singapore, there is no agreement. Hopefully, Singapore will change its outlook and will be willing to sign an extradition (agreement). Let me remind our friends from Malaysia, Singapore, don't just, because of the haze, tell stories to the world. It's called sharing, you go through good times together, don't make noise to the world when things go bad. It's just like husband and wife, don't take your quarrels outside. He [Bilahari Kausikan] did Singapore no favour by cementing the perception of his country as the mercenary prick of Southeast Asia. And they wonder why they have no friends. Singapore has two choices. If it refuses to compromise, go to war. This is no longer a verbal war with Singapore. This is about standing ground for Malaysia as the Government. You have been entrusted to lead the Armed Forces and defend the nation. Stop the rhetorics and just do it. Unlike Mahathir, Prime Minister Najib is known to be a strong US ally and would continue to support US presence in the region. Without Prime Minister Najib in charge of the country, the US stands to lose a reliable partner in Southeast Asia given that the Philippines has broken away from Washington, Singapore and Brunei being too small to make an impact and Thailand as well as Indonesia too immersed in their own domestic political problems. There is nothing to gain by issuing threats to interdict Malaysian ships in Malaysian or Singaporean waters. What they will get is only pain by a thousand cuts. The situation in Singapore is worse. In Singapore, if you are a Malay, you can never become a military officer. They are the real racists, not here. You can go and check it out. I also would like to pay tribute and render honor to a new kind of Filipino hero, who are our overseas workers. Today the body of one such heroine is coming home, and I refer to the late Mrs. Flor Contemplacion. The death of your beloved Flor will not be in vain. It will spur everyone to recognize and uphold the dignity of the migrant worker who is the Philippines' contribution to other countries' development. The decision to name the ship after Indonesian heroes is final and Indonesia considers the two countries have long resolved the matter following then prime minister Lee Kuan Yew’s visit to the heroes’ cemetery and sprinkling of flowers on the graves of Osman and Harun. Singapore was indeed outrageous as it does not know that Usman and Harun were Indonesian national heroes. Basically, Singaporeans despise Malays, we are considered nonexistent. They just look after themselves, all they just look for are profits. Singapore lives on investment. If the suspect did not invest there, he would surely have been driven out of the pretext of overstaying. This is the reason why Singapore needs its mandatory conscription. We are also definitely not against any particular country. We’re just doing what we have to do in order for a small country like us to survive in this sea of anti-Chinese hatred. Try thinking of it like a mini Israel being surrounded by giant Muslim neighbors. Like it? Share it!More by this author |
