Thinking to bring a teeny weeny kitten at home? While older animals are considered perfect as ESAs, a kitten will do just fine if you are looking for a small cuddly creature and are ready to take up the responsibility.

Before bringing your ESA kitten home, make sure that you have acquired a valid ESA letter for housing. Other than the letter, there are a number of other things that you must do before bringing your little lovely home.

1. Get Rid or Hide Away the Dangerous Things

Every house has one or more things that are useful for house chores but are not very useful for kids and animals. When bringing a kitten home, make sure that you have removed all the harmful things like electric wires and chords, small objects and plants that could be dangerous for her.

2. Store away all the Chemicals

And by this, we mean all the cleaning solutions like bleach, floor cleaners, and other detergents. If swallowed, these could be poisonous and cause extreme harm and could be even fatal for your kitten.

3. Get a Comfy Bed

Like newborn babies, a kitten needs at least 16 hours of sleep to grow into a healthy emotional support cat. This is why a comfortable and snuggly bed is essential if you want to provide her a small and comfortable space of her own, which is important also.

As a DIY option, you can get a cardboard box and place some blankets in its base to transform it into a comfortable bed.

4. Get Lots of Kitty Toys

Cats love to play and kittens love it even more. Like small babies, all they have to do is to sleep and play, which is why you will need to shop for a lot of toys. Fluffy balls and some chewy toys will keep your kitten active and busy.

5. Prepare your Kids

If you are a family with kids then it is important that you tell them why they need to be gentle and soft with the new kitten. We know that your kids must be super excited about having a small furball at home but do not allow them to handle the kitten with such excitement.

Do not allow them to play unsupervised with the kitten, at first. Get them involved from the start so that they may develop gentle feelings toward the kitten.

6. Get a Suitable Litter Tray

A litter tray is an absolute must when bringing a kitten or a cat at home. Potty training is important for your cat and getting a good litter and tray will help you in training your little kitty. Try a few litters before making the purchase and, if possible, buy two different litters to give options to your kitty.

7. Get High-Quality Kitten Food and Treats

Kitten food is different than cat food and is formulated specifically for the kittens. Kittens need high amount of calories to grow and that is why stocking up on a good quality kitten food is important and essential for the healthy growth and development of your kitty junior and to have that kitten you need an emotional support animal letter.

8. Get a Scratching Post

A scratching post is important for cats and kitten alike. Scratching is a natural cat behavior and with a scratching post, you provide them an opportunity to be in its natural habitat. In case you miss this important thing, be ready for ripped and damaged furniture.

9. Be Prepared for Accidents

No matter how well you try to train your kitten, they are just ‘kids’ and accidents bound to happen with them. Keep pet-friendly cleaners and odor removal products at hand to manage any such accidents.

10. Get a Good Quality Carrier

A carrier is important for every pet and ESA owner. When traveling somewhere, you will want your kitten to accompany you. Good quality and sturdy cat carrier will make the transporting process easy and you will have the peace of mind that your kitten is safe and comfortable.

Bringing a kitten home comes with a lot of responsibility. You will have to take care of it just like any newborn baby. However, having a tiny furball around will be a sight for sore eyes.
