Taking care of your roof

Regular professional roofing inspections are an essential part of protecting the roof over your business. A roof inspector will be able to detect any potential problems or roofing issues you may have missed, as well as provide valuable insight and advice into maintaining your commercial roof. 

Clear Gutters

Cleaning out the gutters is as simple as grabbing a pair of gloves, a ladder, and safely climbing up to the roof to shovel the dirt and leaves out. A roofing contractor will recommend cleaning out your gutters between each season, or after a particularly windy storm. 

Wash Your Roof

When it comes to maintaining your roof, a quick wash will do wonders. Roofing materials get caked in dirt, dust, algae, and moss. Earth won't damage your roof. However, algae and moss build up over time will rot the shingles and roofing materials. 

To properly rid the roof of moss and algae growth, spray your roof with a diluted mixture of bleach and water. Bleach kills the bacteria of algae and will help to clean the roof materials thoroughly. It's also a good idea to install copper strips beneath the roofing peak so that when it rains, the copper molecules spread over the roof. The copper will kill any algae regrowth. 

Look out for leaks

Another great way to properly maintain the roof of your commercial building is to look out for potential leaks. Vertec Roof Sydney Leak Repair team advise that if there is an attic or a high ceiling, regularly check them for water damage and signs of a leak. Other indicators of a possible leak include:

• Spots on exterior walls
• Musty odors
• Water stains on the walls or ceiling
• Bulging patches on the interior walls or ceiling

If any of these signs of damage are present, you may need to deal with them immediately. The first step is to try and identify the location of the leak and having a roofing contractor come out to make the leak repairs.
