What could be more irritating than abandoning a crucial task in the middle to fetch and plug in a charger? No doubt, we all have days when we wish the battery on our laptops would last a bit longer. Here are some tips for extending the life of the battery on your laptop:
• Usually, notebook batteries last longer than laptop batteries. The smaller the screen, the slower the laptop display power dissipates. To enhance battery life, buy a smaller screen laptop if it meets your usage needs.
• A small amount of time spent on market research to identify which brand offers a longer battery life on its laptops/notebooks can result in hours of more computing enjoyment each day. • Keep the brightness level of your screen at a minimum because the maximum power dissipation is through the screen.
• Switch off the wireless card if you do not intend to use the internet. It keeps on searching for available networks if it is on, and thus consumes battery power.
• Defragment the hard disk of your laptop on a regular basis to ensure it works efficiently.
• Shut down your laptop when you are not using it. DO NOT keep your laptop on hibernate mode all day. Many people never shut down their laptops and keep them on the “hibernate” mode all the time. This consumes lots of power and also has an adverse effect on the life of the battery.
• Do not keep unnecessary devices plugged into your laptop, such as a webcam, USB thumbstick or a wireless PC card. Remove these devices when you are not using them.
• Avoid keeping unnecessary applications and windows open in the background. This will save a lot of battery power.
With some extra care, you can prolong the battery life of your laptop.
