Make Your Dog?s Cage Feel Like Home

My daughter has a wonder dog that she loves to death. His name is “Mister”, and believe me; he knows he is the boss! My daughter is an attorney, so there is times when Mister has to be home alone. Having the right dog cage or dog crates makes all the difference in the world as to how he feels while she is gone.

Dogs have been identified as “man’s best friend” for as long as I can remember. They are indeed loyal animals who share an almost human-like bond with their owners. That is why most dog owners that I know treat their dogs like just another member of the family. Dogs require love and attention, and when they do not get enough they will let you know. Some dogs actually display sadness when they miss their master. Some dogs will chew and destroy everything in sight to make sure you understand that you are not meeting the social demands of pet ownership! That is why it is so important to give your dog(s) plenty of attention when you can. And when you cannot, make sure that they are left in comfort and understand how things work.

Dog cages and crates can serve multiple purposes. One is to keep them from having free reign of the house while you are away. Even the most well trained animal can only keep from soiling your floors for so long. If you get held up unexpectedly and do not get home in time to take them out at the normal time, they may release themselves in the first convenient spot they can find.  Cages and crates are also used for travel. Some dogs are not comfortable being free in a moving vehicle, so a nice comfortable cage keeps them situated and stable for the ride.

It is important that you take the time to train your dog to allow them to get used to being confined in the cage for a while. Do not expect it to happen overnight. Give them time to understand and adjust. Also, never use the cage as a place of punishment, but always connect it to something pleasant. Eventually, you will not have to coax them to get them to go into the cage. They go as soon as you ask them because they will view it as a positive experience.

When choosing the appropriate cage or crate for your pet, be sure to get one that is the right size for your dog. The worst thing you can do is lock up your dog in a cage that is too small for them to move about freely.  Look at it this way: Would you like it if your bed was just big enough for you to lie in one spot only? I do not think so. So it is not likely your pet will enjoy being cramped either. So take care of your pets and they will love you forever!
