If you have decided to spend your holiday in Marmaris Turkey, you should expect to enjoy a very interesting experience. Besides the sunny beach and the warm water, the luxurious hotels and the fancy clubs and restaurants that can be found in any tourist destination of this kind, there are many interesting particular things you can see and do in this Turkish piece of heaven.

Although you can also find fast-foods and restaurants with French, Dutch or English food, it would be a shame not to try Turkish menus. The food in this region is very reach in herbs, vegetables and, since Marmaris is on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea, in fish. During the holiday season, for example, because of the hot weather, an everyday meal usually consists of cooked eggplants, potatoes or peppers with refreshing tomato sauce or yogurt or of melons, cucumbers and sheep’s cheese. The most popular Turkish dessert is the halvah and, of course, the Turkish delight. Of course, there are numerous specific dishes and spices that are worth it. One thing you should remember, though, is the fact that, most probably, the restaurants near the harbor are bound to be more expensive than those located away from the sea-shore.

When it comes to drinks, the local beer seems to be very good as per most tourists’ testimonies and another very refreshing and healthy beverage is the traditional yogurt based drink called Ayran. International brands of beer and the local wines are quite expensive in Marmaris, but some of the local wineries might be worth trying. Locally manufactured fruit drinks, on the one hand, cost the equivalent of less than 50 Euro cents or dollar cents.  Water, on the other hand, can be more expensive than this kind of juice: a bottle of water can cost up to one Euro and 50 cents or two US dollars at a hotel in Marmaris Turkey.

A great place in Marmaris where you can have incredible fun and also admire the particularities of this town is the Bar street. There are over one hundred clubs and bars of the most various kinds and it is located right in the old town, which you can enjoy while partying in the outdoor nightclubs. It can be the best combination of unknown and familiar: you can dance till morning on the most popular tunes and admire the town at dawn at the end. The entree is usually free of charge; however, you have to keep in mind the fact that the drinks can be pricier than anywhere else in Marmaris Turkey.

Another thing most tourists are interested in is shopping: shopping for souvenirs, clothes, local specialties and so on. There are, of course, numerous shops in Marmaris, just as in any other town and, especially, just as in any other touristic town around the world. Besides these, however, there are the traditional Turkish markets called bazaar, which can be really unusual for a European or an American: crowded places, the most various people negotiating the price for the most diverse products, noise, agitation, liveliness. The best advantage is that you can buy nice things at reasonable prices. The clothes, for example, are usually of good quality even though they are mostly fakes. However, nothing can stop you having a great time in Marmaris Turkey.
