Living in the Netherlands

For future expats, the Netherlands are a country that many are drawn to, specifically Amsterdam. Any expat that moves to Amsterdam will find that the city is rich in history. Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands and it is one of the top tourist destinations in the world. It receives more than 5 million visitors every year. It’s named after the Amstel dam, with still stands at the center of the city. Amsterdam is sometimes known as the Venice of the North for its five concentric rows.

The Netherlands house Amsterdam, which is one of the most densely populated areas of the country. Because of this, housing is at a premium. If you move to the Netherlands, you should expect to live in a place that is smaller than what you might be used to. Since there are so many people living in Amsterdam, you can expect it to be fast paced and interesting. However, you can also expect that it will cost quite a bit to own your little piece of Amsterdam.

If you want to live in Amsterdam, there are areas that are less expensive than others. If you live further away from the city, you can pay less and get more space than if you choose to live right in the center of the city.

Types of Property

There are many types of properties available for people to rent or purchase. If you are looking for an apartment in Amsterdam, you can choose from studio apartments, one-bedroom apartments, or a larger apartment. A studio apartment is the cheapest living option in Amsterdam. These are usually only big enough for two people at a size of between 40 and 50 metres. A one bedroom apartment is a little larger ranging from 55 to 80 metres. They will have a bedroom, living room, kitchen, and bathroom. A larger apartment may be spread over two floors with the living room and kitchen on one floor and bathroom and bedrooms on another. There will be a second bedroom but don’t expect it to be too big.

If you really want to try a different type of living, you can live in a houseboat. There are around 2,500 houseboats in Amsterdam and owners often rent them out for short periods of time. They have a great novelty value and offer fun for a short period of time or even a longer period of time.
