A Brief Digest on Environmental Law

Posted by Bellaisa on February 24th, 2014

More than four decades ago, various environmental acts were introduced in the US.  The goal was to regulate and promote awareness of environmental issues.  Environmental law is a generic phrase, which is used to refer to The National Environmental Policy Act and other rules and regulations addressing environmental impacts of various operations. In addition to The National Environment Policy Act, The Clean Air Act, The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, The Emergency Planning and Community Right-To-Know Act, The Federal Insecticide, The Clean Water Act, The Toxic Substances Control Act, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act among others are included in the generic phrase “environmental law.”

What Does Environmental Law Cover?

The statutes and regulations that are the basis of environmental law have similar goals of regulating environmental impacts and increasing the awareness of environmental issues. Though these laws can be at times complicated for those who are not accustomed with them, they serve an essential purpose. The government has many laws to deal with a wide range of issues which can affect the environment.

Some reports suggest that before the enactment of the National Environmental Policy, there was a great demand for the rules.  As a result, the government took steps to introduce measures such as the Clean Air Act. Many other acts and laws were also created or amended to deal with issues involving the environment: various natural resources such as water, land and a few more.

Why Environmental Laws Need to be Updated

Since the environmental laws were originally introduced, there have been significant advancements in technology affecting areas such as emissions and testing. A whole lot of work needs to be done to make certain the environmental law rules and regulations account for these technological advancements. Laws pertaining to the environment need to be amended and enhanced at regular intervals to remain effective while accounting for current developments and changes.
